An Easy Coffee Swap
One of the first more sustainable swaps we made was how we make coffee. Funnily enough, this swap was not originally for zero waste reasons, but more so to save money. We were sick of buying filters for our old coffee maker. Some of the disposable coffee filters have plastic in them and shouldn’t be composted. We tried out a reusable hemp filter, which worked okay, but honestly it was annoying to clean. Eventually our cheap coffee maker broke and it was time to replace it. We opted for this pour over coffee carafe with a stainless steel filter.
One of the best things about it is, it produces absolutely no trash! Coffee grounds are composted and the stainless steel filter can be washed and reused forever. It is easy to clean - and you actually know it is clean because you can see everything, unlike coffee machines. It’s also a nice size that’s easy to bring on a trip if needed.
