What’s in Season in September in Virginia | Eat Local
An easy way to reduce your carbon footprint is to eat produce that is in season locally. Not only is it fresher and healthier, but it won’t have to travel such a far distance to get to you, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Here is what is in season this September in Virginia :
Apples
Asian Pears
Beets
Broccoli
Cabbage
Eggplant
Grapes
Green Beans
Peppers
Pumpkins
Strawberries
Squash
Tomatoes
When you’re grocery shopping this month, keep it in mind. Of course an easy way to ensure you’re eating what is in season is to buy directly from farmers at farmer’s markets or if you have the land, grow stuff yourself!
It is also fun to eat what is in season so you aren’t always eating the same things. We can’t wait to make some apple pie, pumpkin soup, roasted squash and broccoli, and snack on some delicious grapes!
