12 Fun Halloween Costumes You Can Easily Thrift this Year | Eco Friendly Halloween
We love Halloween...but there is a lot of unnecessary waste involved. From the candy wrapped in plastic, to the decorations that will be thrown out, to the pretty much one-time-use costumes. It does not have to be that way, though!
This year, consider using what you already have in your closet, thrifting, or swapping old costumes with friends instead of buying something new.
Here are some ideas we are thinking of for Halloween. These are for any gender, body type, race or ethnicity. You probably have some of these things in your closet already, if not check with friends or the thrift store!
Cowpoke/Cowboy/Cowgal - Howdy! You just need a cowboy hat, a collared shirt, some pants, and cowboy boots.
Rosie the Riveter - We can do it! Very easy and stuff you can get at the last minute! Find a red bandana, blue work shirt and jeans (or boiler suit), and some boots.
Mario - Super simple! Overalls, red shirt, red hat, a way to make yourself have a moustache.
Waldo - Where are they? Dig a red beanie out of your closet, jeans, brown shoes or boots, and a pair of glasses
Hippie - Peace dude. Find something tie-dye, something with fringe, and lots of peace signs. Bonus points for any bellbottom jeans you can find.
Not Famous Shia LaBeouf - We loved him in Even Stevens and Transformers, but now he is not famous. All you need is an old suit, a large paper bag, and a marker!
Mime - Are mimes creepy or are they simply misunderstood? Either way, all you need is a black and white striped shirt, black hat, black pants. Makeup optional.
80’s Workout Instructor - There is no energy like an 80’s Workout Instructor. Get some leggings, a bodysuit, leg warmers (you can make these out of old socks if you don’t have any), headband (if you don’t have one you can make one out of an old t-shirt!), and a pair of sneakers. Maybe even carry a boombox with you playing some 80’s jams.
Ness - Did you play Earthbound? If you ever go to a con you will see tons of people dressed up as Ness - it is a lot of fun! You just need a yellow and blue stripped shirt, red and blue baseball cap, jorts, baseball bat, red sneakers, and a backpack.
Tony Hawk - Probably the only professional skateboarder even moms know the name of. All you need are some shorts, t-shirt, some old Vans, a helmet, a skateboard. If you don’t have a skateboard, you probably have a friend that does!
Ghost - Boo! A classic ghost is never a bad choice, just use an old sheet and cut holes for your eyes
Bob Ross - Let’s get crazy! You just need a light colored collared shirt, a palette, paint brush, positive attitude
If you have some old fast fashion costumes you don’t plan on wearing again, consider donating them to schools, hospitals, daycares, local drama groups, etc.
